CCTV for IP systems

An internet protocol camera, or IP camera, is a type of digital video camera. IP cameras are becoming the new benchmark in surveillance when combined with closed circuit television (CCTV), creating a much more effective security system for your business or industrial site.

The security industry is currently dominated by what are called analog cameras. These surveillance cameras use a CCD sensor which digitizes the image for processing, and then transmits that image to the receiver such as a video monitor or recorder. One downside of this form of monitoring is that analog cameras have no built-in web servers. Being designed to record security footage only locally, the result is that if you have two or more premises, each will require a recording device. Consequently you have a CCTV system that is harder to manage the larger it gets, and is not particularly cost effective.

In comparison to an analog CCTV camera, a CCTV surveillance IP camera is a device connected to a computer via the internet. They work by turning images and audio into data then transmitting this data over a network or internet connection. The main benefit of this over analogue CCTV systems is greater flexibility, better performance and much easier installation. IP cameras are produced with a large range of options, including the ability to pan, tilt, zoom, and can be installed in a number of different forms including domes, bullets, boxes, infrared, covert and wireless.

One of the great benefits of IP cameras is that they are usually equipped with an embedded web server. This means that each individual camera can be accessed and controlled over any IP network by using the internet, thus giving you the ability to view your camera’s video output from any local or remote location live and at any time, without alerting those being watched.

IP cameras also offer especially high detail precision, at least three times better quality than standard analogue cameras. This gives you much more precise and clear footage.

In terms of CCTV installation, the IP CCTV systems are run over existing IP networks (wired or wireless), reducing the time required to install the new system, minimising ugly cables, and causing less disruption to employees and customers.

Portland Night Patrol design and carry out IP CCTV installation to give you greater peace of mind when it comes to the security of your business and safety of your staff and customers.
